A North Dakota forensic examiner was fired earlier this month over an incident in which police were called to her office.
According to two police reports, officers from the North Dakota Highway Patrol and Bismarck Police Department responded to Dr. Barry Miller’s office in Bismarck on April 10. According to the report, one employee told police that Miller was about to be fired and that he was “interrogating” him about it, and that he was inside with his son and was “making murderous comments.” “There is,” he reportedly said.

According to the police report, a state human resources official told police that Miller had made past statements about murder, suicide, and running over employees that “ultimately led to Miller’s termination.” The meeting was scheduled for the next day. She wanted welfare checks for Miller and his son.
Police were reportedly called to the office of Dr. Barry Miller, now a former North Dakota forensic examiner, on the day she was fired.
Police said Miller “appeared very calm” but was confused by the situation and told police he was “okay.”
Police said a human resources representative and state health officials later fired Miller, who “appeared to be coping well” but remained disoriented. Police said she and her son left the office without incident.
The State Police report states, “No one alleges that on this day or in the past Dr. Miller committed any threat or actual violence against any staff member in the ME’s office. No staff member was present. “All of us were concerned for Dr. Miller’s mental health and safety.”
Officer Lt. Daniel Haugen told the Bismarck Tribune that Miller was not arrested and the case was not sent to the Burleigh County State’s Attorney for review.
Miller did not respond to phone messages left with a number believed to be hers.
