Rep. Jim Banks (R-Indiana) said during an appearance on the show that he had “never seen a bigger fall in politics” than he had with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana). Breitbart News Saturday.
Banks, who is running for the Senate, spoke about the ongoing shock and drama surrounding Johnson, who replaced former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) after his ouster.
“There has never been a greater reversal in politics than Mike Johnson, who repeatedly said, “We’re not going to spend any more money in Ukraine until we secure our borders.” And today, he’s doing just the opposite here. To come down to the floor within hours and spend billions of dollars for a foreign country, Ukraine, while our House Republican leadership completely abandons the border. may vote further against it,” Banks said.
Banks said he couldn’t really explain what happened to Johnson, who is also the chairman of “the largest conservative caucus, the Republican Research Committee,” and who has advocated for a balanced budget and talked about fiscal responsibility. Still, he pointed out that Mr. Johnson was the chairman of the Republican Research Committee. “I don’t know what got into him. I don’t know who contacted him. I don’t know what got him hooked,” Banks said, adding, “I don’t know what got him into it. There was,” he explained. “I’m sorry about that. I don’t have a good explanation. I don’t know why he’s doing this, but it’s a big reversal. [and] “It’s a big disappointment for Republicans,” he added, discussing how Mr. Johnson effectively handed the gavel to Democrats with this new arrangement.

“After an omnibus spending bill with the highest price tag and allocation for late-term abortion facilities in American history, we thought it couldn’t get any worse. It’s a win-win situation,” he said of Johnson’s comeback.
“We’ve said over and over again that we’re not going to do that, and yet another $60 billion is going to be paid to Ukraine without securing our borders,” Banks continued. He pointed out that he didn’t know what to expect.
“I’m scared. I mean, I’m scared of what Mike Johnson will do next after he gets away with this. It’s not just him. It’s — the House Republican leadership has allowed this to happen. That’s why we have rank-and-file members of Congress who hold them accountable, get a new majority, and hopefully elect a different speaker before we elect Donald Trump. “We need to make sure this never happens again in the White House,” he added.
