Mayor Adams pokes fun at local media at annual charity event

Mayor Eric Adams posed for a few photos for Big Apple newspapers Saturday night during Manhattan’s annual Inner Circle charity show.

Mr. Hizzoner took the stage at Midtown’s Ziegfeld Ballroom just 15 minutes before the event ended. The event was an annual comical speech by a group of mostly journalists featuring mayors, media, and politicians.

“The Inner Circle — as I know it, the Inner Circle of Hell,” Adams quipped, drawing laughter from the crowd.

The Inner Circle Charity Roast is a major New York City event that brings together the city’s media and political community for a night of comedy and sketches, now in its 101st year.

The mayor took this opportunity to shout out the newspapers in which he is featured in the headlines every day.

“My favorite local paper, the New York Post, is here, too,” Adams said. “Many people criticize newspapers for sensationalism and sensational crimes, but what do you mean? That’s my job!

He joked that the New York Daily News was only at the event to hand out free papers.

He said the New York Times is “known as the Gray Lady, as opposed to the White Lady readership.”

Mr. Adams also touted his successes, claiming that crime has decreased and employment has increased since he took office.

“We’re taking criminals off the streets. Just ask our donors,” he joked.

After performing the “What’s the Mayor Wearing?” skit with SNL’s Punky Johnson, Adams took a moment to “thank the press for the treatment.” [me] The first two years went very well,” he said, dedicating the show to City Hall employee Pedro Frisneda. He passed away today.
