DMV-area sports team mascots turn Nationals’ presidents race into all-out brawl in hilarious scene

The Washington Nationals presidential championship game is always a fun spectacle for fans, but Sunday afternoon’s race had more of a WWE feel than an MLB one.

When the race started during a game between the Nationals and the Houston Astros, Teddy Roosevelt was in the lead, running toward the right field foul pole. It looked like he was going to win, but when the right field gate opened, mayhem broke out.

Mascots from sports teams based in Washington, D.C. and Virginia sprinted toward the presidents as they raced in a hilarious scene.

First, “G-Wiz” of the Washington Wizards dove into Roosevelt, causing him to fall on the warning track.

He was followed by James Madison University’s “Duke Dog,” with his crown and cape, and George Washington University’s “George,” who could have passed as his namesake.

Others include Georgetown University’s bulldog, the University of Maryland’s soft-shelled turtle “Tetudo,” the Washington Capitals’ “Slapshot,” and the Washington Commanders’ new mascot, “Major Taddy,” who elbowed President Roosevelt. ‘ was also included.

A street announcer at Nationals Park said it was the baseball team’s mascot, Screech, who invited his “friends” to try to ruin the presidential election. Screech’s family was there too, and they all helped him win the race.

Screech was seen waving a flag near first base as the presidents struggled to escape their attackers.

When baseball finally resumed, the Nationals also cheered up the fans in the stands, defeating the Astros 6-0 and winning the weekend series.

Nationals starting pitcher Mitchell Parker pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits and striking out eight. On the other hand, the Nats’ offensive line had multiple players contributing, including Luis Garcia Jr. and Joey Meneses, who each had two RBIs. Nick Senzel also hit a solo home run in the win.
