President Biden is expected to use his Earth Day speech to announce the first wave of job information under his climate change and jobs plan.
Biden is scheduled to visit Prince William Forest Park in Virginia to announce the availability of 2,000 climate-related jobs listed on ClimateCorps.gov.
These jobs are the first subset of a total of 20,000 jobs in the program, which aims to put young people to work in fields such as renewable energy, environmental protection and climate-resilient infrastructure.
The administration is also expected to announce that members of the American Climate Corps will also have access to a “streamlined path to federal service.”
Biden is also expected to announce that the administration is naming 60 organizations to receive $7 billion in grants aimed at promoting rooftop solar power.
The money will go to states, tribes, cities and nonprofit organizations and will be used to install solar panels on 900,000 homes.
The subsidies under the Democratic Inflation Control Act are expected to particularly benefit disadvantaged communities.
Other members of the president’s cabinet are also expected to travel for climate-related events throughout this week.
