NYU students planning walkout following violent anti-Israel protests

A group called the New York University Palestine Solidarity Coalition called on New York University students to leave classes on Tuesday following a violent anti-Israel protest that took place at the university last night.

The group posted on Instagram asking students to leave class at 1 p.m. ET and head to Washington Square Park in Manhattan. [and] Develop a strategy. ”

Anti-Israel protests on New York University’s campus turned violent Monday night, with demonstrators throwing bottles at police officers who were called to the scene to disperse the unruly crowd, officials said.

New York City police officials confirmed to Fox News on Tuesday that 133 protesters were arrested after police tried to remove them from campus using zip ties and flex cuffs. They were taken to police headquarters by bus and charged with trespassing, the official added.

NYU Palestine Solidarity Coalition announced in an Instagram post that NYU students in the group set up a “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” on Monday.

The group called for “an end to all war profiteering and genocide investment,” a “complete academic boycott of Israel,” the removal of the NYPD from campus, and that New York University “restrict speech on campus.” We must protect our freedom and grant full amnesty to all students and faculty.” They were punished for their pro-Palestinian activities. ”

They claimed that last night’s arrests were “violent”, but that “the violence we faced is only a fraction of the violence that Palestinians face on the ground every day.”

NYU did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital on Tuesday about the strike.

Mass arrests began around 8:30pm on Monday after protests escalated to the plaza in front of the business school. The university issued a statement explaining that while it supports students’ right to protest, safety is its top priority.

“Early this afternoon, additional protesters, many of whom appear to be unaffiliated with NYU, suddenly broke through the fence that had been erected on the north side of the plaza, forcing other protesters who were already in the plaza to “The university was very upset when it joined the Plaza,” said John Beckman, a New York University spokesperson.

“This violation violated the directives of the Campus Safety Officer and also violated multiple university regulations,” he added.

Earlier, anti-Israel demonstrators formed a human chain as police were called in to quell the demonstrations.
