11:38 a.m.: A former Washington state trooper is on the run after allegedly killing his ex-wife and 17-year-old girlfriend and kidnapping their 1-year-old son.
The Washington State Patrol announced Monday that it was searching for suspect Elias Huizar, 39. Police claim the suspect is “armed” and “likely to commit further crimes”. The suspect was charged with the double murder and later fled on the scheduled day. In court he is charged with child rape.
Just before 3:30 p.m., police were alerted that Huizar allegedly shot and killed his ex-wife, Amber Rodriguez, outside the William Wiley Elementary School in West Richland, where she worked.
Officers searched Huizar’s home and soon discovered the body of his 17-year-old girlfriend, Angelica Santos. His residence is near the school.
Additionally, Santos is the mother of Huizar’s currently missing one-year-old son. Huizar’s relationship with the underage girl is directly related to one of the two child rape charges he was scheduled to face in court.
Huizar’s 17-year-old girlfriend reportedly told police that she had raped her 16-year-old friend while she was unconscious at his home after drinking alcohol, leading to his arrest on February 3. It is reported that.rd.
She was charged with “second-degree rape, furnishing alcohol to a minor, and third-degree rape” because of Santos’ relationship with her friend.
After posting $200,000 bail, the former police officer was granted release as long as he stopped drinking and avoided two underage girls.
According to court documents, Rodriguez had recently filed for a modification of the custody arrangement for the couple’s two children, days before the murder. She had also filed for a protection order against Huizar in 2020 following her divorce. In 2020, Rodriguez expressed that she had fears and concerns about the safety of her children.
Additionally, she told police that Huizar had been harassing her since their first divorce and that he was “armed.”
According to an alert issued by the Washington State Patrol, authorities believe Huizar may be on his way to Mexico with his 1-year-old child.
Meanwhile, investigators say they are currently actively searching for a “silver 2009 Toyota Corolla with Washington plate CBZ4745.”
Huizar worked for the local police department from 2014 to 2022. He was also assigned to serve as a school officer at Washington Junior High School in Yakima.
