The group “Abandon Biden” is rallying voters in Pennsylvania ahead of the state’s primary to protest President Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war.
Biden has secured the Democratic nomination and has visited the Keystone State in recent weeks. Pennsylvania, a battleground state in the 2024 general election, has 19 votes in the Electoral College, making it an important battleground state for Biden’s re-election bid against former President Trump, the Republican nominee.
The “Abandon Biden” effort is being spearheaded by Muslim and Arab American voters across the country. Biden is working on similar efforts in other battleground states, including Wisconsin, Arizona and North Carolina. The push received more than 13 percent of the vote in Michigan, representing more than 100,000 residents.
‘Abandon Biden’ Pennsylvania urged residents of the Keystone State to write “No Joe,” equating it to the “non-commitment” votes that have been featured in previous elections in the state.
“We call on all people of conscience to write “NO JOE” expressing your desire for “ceasefire,” or any other message that speaks to your beliefs. to channel their frustrations into strong democratic action,” Rabiul Chaudhry, co-chair of Pennsylvania Forsakes Biden, said in a statement.
“This includes writing ‘uncommitted’. As we engage with community members and leaders, it is clear that there is a strong desire to explore alternatives and make a loud voice for change,” Chaudhry continued. “On April 23, make your write-in vote your voice in this important conversation to remind us that democracy thrives on participation and the courage to demand better.”
Pennsylvania has one of the largest Jewish populations. The state also has a large Arab-American population.
Biden was in Florida on Tuesday campaigning. He denounced the state’s six-week abortion ban that will go into effect in two weeks and linked the issue to President Trump.
“Next week, one of the most extreme anti-abortion laws in the country will go into effect right here in the state of Florida,” Biden said. “We’re criminalizing reproductive health care before a woman even knows if she’s pregnant. Let’s be really clear: There’s one person who’s responsible for this nightmare. And he gets recognized and he brags about it. Donald.・Trump.
The president urged Pennsylvania voters to head to the polls on Tuesday.
Biden: “Pennsylvania, today is the presidential primary.” said in the post on social platform X. “There’s too much danger to leave this alone.”
In 2020, Biden won Pennsylvania by about 80,000 votes, but in 2016, Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton by less than 45,000 votes.
