Jerry Seinfeld Says the ‘Movie Business Is Over’

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld said: GQ Magazine “The movie business is over.”

That’s definitely the case.

Seinfeld is out promoting his directorial debut. No matte, Netflix movie coming May 3rd. A story about the creation of Pop-Tarts in the early 1960s. No matte This is also the first time Seinfeld has starred in a live-action film.

Directing a film was “completely new to me,” he says. Said GQ. “I thought we had done something great, but it wasn’t done this way at all.” [movie] people are working. They are so serious! They have no idea that the movie business is over. ”

When asked if he told them he was done with the movie business, Seinfeld said he hadn’t, but explained why:[F]ilm does not occupy the top of the social and cultural hierarchy, as it has for most of our lives,” he said. When a movie came out, if it was good, we all went to see it. We all talked about it. I quoted my favorite lines and scenes. ”

“Right now, we’re walking through a firehose of water, and we’re just trying to see,” he added, referring to all of today’s content.

When asked what would replace film in the cultural imagination, he replied:

depression? Stagnation?I would say confusion. Disorientation has taken over the movie business. Everyone I know in show business does this every day. what happened? How do you do this? what should we do now? … Audiences are flocking to stand-up now because you can’t fake it. It’s like platform diving. You can say you are a platform diver, but he will know in 2 seconds whether you are a platform diver or not. That’s what people love about stand-up. they can trust it. Everything else is fake.

There’s no question that stand-up is exploding to heights seen in the ’70s and ’80s. When Seinfeld says the audience can “trust,” he’s right. The only people who tell the truth anymore are people like Seinfeld, Ricky Gervais, and Dave Chappelle. “Everything else is fake” is exactly right. Movies and television lie and lie, and we’re not talking about fanciful stories. Lies are how the characters act, talk, interact, and act. It’s a lie about a 90 pound woman getting punched by a 200 pound man. The lie is that everyone is gay. The lie is that everyone is more obsessed with identity than achievement. The lie is that America is a racist, sexist, and homophobic culture. The lie lies within transsexuals and fetishists who are portrayed as normal and heroic. It’s a lie that it’s healthy to make young children question their sexuality and gender. The lie is that there is something biological between men and women, when in reality it’s just personality.

Now it seems like the only place we can enjoy the truth is on the stand-up stage. And there is nothing more interesting, memorable, and moving than being told the truth. The truth is so hidden and distorted by today’s film and television industry that watching Ricky Gervais or Dave Chappelle is more than just entertainment. It’s cathartic.

Seinfeld’s statement that the movie business is “over” is also accurate. Hollywood’s cultural influence has all but disappeared. The only thing that still unites everyone about movies is complaining about how bad and off-center they’ve become.

Left-wing movie companies worked overtime to alienate, offend, insult, lecture, and condescend to half the country, resulting in movies so bad that the other half of the left chose to stay away from movies in droves. is.

Most movies and television have become propaganda, with no shelf life and no lasting impact. Universal themes and ideals unite us. Instead, we are lied to and scolded. Exploring what it means to be human captures our attention. Instead, we are lied to about how identity trumps our shared humanity.

This is also why shows from decades ago are so popular. Friends, Suits, The Office, Gilmore Girls, Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS, Seinfeld,And so on. dominated Literally over hundreds of streaming charts hundreds of— of the latest streaming shows. Everything new is crap.

I’ll probably never watch Seinfeld’s pop-tart movies, but at least he cares about the only thing a comedian should care about: “The Funny.”
