Tesla and CEO Elon Musk this week shared a little more about their vision for the self-driving ride-hailing service the electric vehicle (EV) maker is building.
This additional information was announced Tuesday, when the company announced its first-quarter financial results, which included updates on future models, robotaxis, artificial intelligence efforts, and more.
Tesla said it plans to “seamlessly embed ride-hailing services into the Tesla app.”

A “preview” image released by the company on Tuesday suggested the ride-hailing service’s app would be similar to those of existing ride-hailing companies. There could also potentially be a “summon” button.
Musk says Tesla’s affordable EV will arrive next year
According to Tesla’s first-quarter shareholder presentation, ride-hailing features the company is developing are “slated to become available in the future.”
“We have invested in an ecosystem of hardware and software to enable self-driving vehicles and ride-hailing services. We believe that a scalable and profitable self-driving business will be We believe this can be achieved through a vision-only architecture with end-to-end neural networks trained on “billions of miles of real-world data,” the company said.
Tesla has previously cited building self-driving vehicles as a company goal.
Musk said Tuesday that the fleet will be operated by Tesla, and likened it to a mashup of Airbnb and Uber.
