Accusations Against Upstate New York Mother for Terrorist Donations
A mother from Irondequoit, New York, is facing serious allegations of donating $30,000 to a terrorist group. Neighbors claim that since the October 7 attacks, Katherine Beth Washburn, 37, has become “more Muslim,” even making her daughter wear a hijab.
Residents noted that Washburn, who supposedly led a local anti-Israel group, started wearing Islamic clothing after the incidents. They described her as brusque and unfriendly. Donna Glover, a neighbor, remembered a moment when she had to call out to Washburn’s six-year-old daughter, who was wearing a hijab, to “come in and get dressed.” Interestingly, Glover mentioned that Washburn didn’t wear such clothing when she moved in about five years ago. Now, she’s become more religious, particularly since the conflict in Gaza escalated.
When visited recently, a worn Palestinian flag was still displayed at Washburn’s home, a location where SWAT teams had previously made a significant intervention. A concerned neighbor expressed feelings of unease about the situation, labeling Washburn as “very, very strange.”
A man, who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned he had a brief conversation with Adam Washburn, Katherine’s husband, who didn’t seem supportive, reportedly calling his wife names and refusing to assist with her bail.
Washburn has been identified as a leader of the Direct Action Movement for the Liberation of Palestine, a group advocating sabotage against Israel following the events of October 7. Prosecutors allege she communicated a desire for each day to replicate the events of that day, and she purportedly facilitated the transfer of funds through virtual currency.
Old photographs depict her as a typical middle-class woman, happy with her family. Yet, her social media now features images in a hijab and anti-Israel sentiments, including revealing the addresses of perceived “Zionists.”
It remains ambiguous when exactly she began her radical transformation. Reports include statements from Washburn expressing a desire to fight against Israel if she were in Gaza and her declaration of a strong dislike for Jews.
In a shocking display of bravado, Washburn reportedly posed for a selfie with a Hamas flag and hand grenades. Ironically, she also seemed aware of the potential repercussions of her activities, posting a comment about running into trouble due to her affiliations with anti-Israel organizations.
Charged with attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, she faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years. Washburn appeared in court recently, where she was denied bail.
As of now, her attorney has not commented on the situation.
