Former President Trump’s lawyer, Alina Haba, signaled that she does not have high hopes for the former president’s success in the New York hush money trial.
“But at this point, there’s not a lot of hope that New York courts are going to do the right thing, that the jury is going to do the right thing,” Haba said in an interview Wednesday on Newsmax’s “The Greg Kelly Report.” He spoke at “You know, we’re in a blue state, Greg. And I think it’s all by design.”
“We’re involved in an eight-year-old case that’s beyond the statute of limitations, but it was dismissed by the court.” [former Manhattan District Attorney] “Cy Vance was only brought in after President Trump decided to run,” she added.
Mr. Haba is not representing Mr. Trump in the hush money case, but has been a frequent critic of the numerous indictments brought against the former president. Jury selection for the New York criminal trial ended last week, and witness testimony began earlier this week.
President Trump made payments to former fixer Michael Cohen in connection with reimbursement for a payment he made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016 to keep quiet about an alleged affair with the former president 10 years ago. He has been charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records. . Judge Juan Melchán, who is overseeing the case, has placed a gag order on Trump that prohibits him from attacking witnesses, prosecutors, court staff or the judge’s family.
Haba suggested people take a closer look at the prosecution team in the hush money case.
“And like you said, look how many there are,” she said. “I can’t talk about the American people because there’s an unconstitutional gag order, but I think we also need to look at who’s on that team and where they’re coming from.”
“It’s very troubling, as you know, and I know you know very well…We are in a fight for our lives at this very moment. ” she added.
The trial, the first-ever criminal trial against a former or sitting US president, resumes on Thursday.
