Supreme Court weighs limits of presidential immunity in Trump case: Listen live

The Supreme Court is scheduled to consider the limits of presidential immunity Thursday in an unprecedented and historic case that has significant implications for former President Trump’s legal battle and the 2024 White House election.

Trump is asserting claims that have already been rejected by two lower courts. In other words, even former executives are immune from prosecution for official acts committed while in office.

Prosecutors believe this novel argument will keep the president exempt from the criminal justice system even after he leaves office.

The court includes three conservatives appointed by President Trump to the court, Justices Neil Gorsuch, Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and Justice Amy Coney Barrett, but the court’s verdict is that Trump should not be prosecuted. This could negate his claim to be the Republican candidate.
