Bobby Bartels, manager of Steamfitters Local 638, went on Fox News Friday to detail why New York state union members are “sick” of President Joe Biden’s policies, calling former Donald Trump He said he believes the president has a chance in the state.
Bartels appeared on “The Ingraham Angle” Thursday morning to discuss President Trump’s visit to unions. Fox host Laura Ingraham asked Bartels about the union’s “change” as opposed to its traditional Democratic support, noting that the group supported Biden during the 2020 election.
“Yes, my members are basically fed up with illegal immigration, crime, exorbitant prices for food, gas, and electricity. It’s hurting everyone. If we join the union, basically We’re all going to be Democrats. The Democrats are just pushing us away. We’re a patriotic union, we have three Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, and we have a lot of veterans. Some people have family members who live there. [in the] police and fire department. And they’re tired of it. We are treated as second-class citizens,” Bartels said.
As Biden officials claim things are “calming down,” Ingraham pressed Bartels about recent GDP statistics released on inflation, to which Bartels responded that many He said his union members were “concerned” and needed to reconsider its position. “One of the things that I think is happening at the same time is that job outsourcing is accelerating in the US under Biden’s policies. The US trade deficit is widening further; That means more stuff is coming in than going out. That’s clearly hurting union members across the country,” Ingraham noted.
“Laura, this problem is hitting everyone in this country, not just union members. Everyone is feeling the pain. It’s not getting better. Our tax dollars are going to illegal immigrants. We can’t sustain what’s going on, feed them, shelter them, clothe them, God knows what else. This country can’t sustain it. ” Bartels said.
Bartels later said recent polls show that unions appear to support a majority of Trump supporters, so he believes the former president has a chance in the state. .
“I just noticed that we now have 9,000 members. Only a fraction of them have been reported to my poll. But right now it’s Trump vs. Biden, 3-1. “Our polls show Trump with a 3-1 lead,” Bartels said.
“What does he think?” [Trump] Given what happened, does he have a chance to fight in New York? ” Ingraham asked.
“I believe he is. I’ve been getting calls since 7:30 this morning from union members thanking me. I’ve been receiving calls from members of the union since 7:30 this morning. I’ve been receiving calls from local sisters, business owners from around the country, other local residents, electricians, plumbers. We’ve gotten calls from retired union members from other local unions who are happy that we are at least taking a stand and supporting their wishes. ,” Bartels said.
Recent polls show Mr. Trump trailing Mr. Biden on issues that matter to voters, with many people favoring the former president’s handling of both inflation and the cost of living. CNBC poll Of 1,000 registered voters, 52% said Trump would do a better job of tackling inflation and the cost of living, while only 30% sided with Biden.
