“Cyber Guy”: Tesla’s Traveling Warrior
The video shows that Tesla semi-trucks can operate on icy roads, potentially providing a sustainable all-weather heavy-lift solution as emissions become a concern. Kurt Knutson takes a closer look.
For those skeptical of Tesla semi-trucks, performance in less-than-perfect conditions is near the top of the question list. Sure, this all-electric truck can handle a completely controlled environment, but truckers know that things are rarely perfect on real-world roads.
how Tesla semi-truck blows up diesel-fueled truck During acceleration, even on steep hills, readers still had many questions about Tesla’s truck design. Some of those questions focused on whether it had the control and power to handle rough weather and icy roads.
We asked Tesla itself for answers to these questions about the weather, but we didn’t get any answers. Fortunately, there are some other avenues to investigate this issue, including a recent video from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), which may provide some answers.

How Tesla’s semi-truck performed in bad weather
of CHP created a Facebook post In early 2024, California cited closing Donner Summit along Interstate 80 after multiple semi-trucks lost control on icy roads. However, the presentation itself was not very noteworthy.
What caught our attention, and the attention of more than 3.5 million viewers, was a video of a Tesla semi-truck slowly but successfully driving down an icy road. Although CHP did not mention the Tesla truck in the post, the video clearly shows its unique design.

This video looked like a Tesla semi-truck handling ice like a cold weather pro, but we have to say it was only 17 seconds long. It’s impossible to know how far the truck traveled or how fast it was going in the video. It’s also unclear what happened to the truck after the officer stopped recording.
Still, video evidence seems to indicate that icy conditions were not an issue for this Tesla semi-truck. If this is true, it indicates that it could potentially be performed anywhere in the United States at any time of the year, not just in warm-climate states that experience primarily mild weather.

Tesla semi-truck’s massive emissions impact
Tesla is quasitruck Even when fully loaded at 82,000 pounds, energy consumption is less than 2 kWh per mile. These energy savings can have a huge impact in terms of reducing emissions. transport and environment Semi-trucks in Europe are estimated to account for 27% of all vehicle emissions, but only represent 2% of the vehicles on the road.

EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency) states that heavy-duty trucks are the “fastest growing contributor to emissions,” making all-electric options like Tesla’s semi-trucks revolutionary. Finding new options to reduce emissions is important because the EPA predicts that U.S. cargo traffic will increase by 45% from now until 2040.
Of course, to provide such an advantage, Tesla trucks must prove they can handle the conditions truckers encounter every day, including driving in less-than-ideal road conditions and weather. What the vehicle appears to be doing in the CHP video would indicate positive progress.

Tesla’s semi-truck appears to be showing off videos proving the strength of its design, including its power on hills. The efficiency of traveling long distances on a single charge has been demonstrated. And now it appears to be operating safely even in winter road conditions. It will be interesting to see what this truck can bring in the near future as it tries to overcome the skeptics.
