Biden accuses Florida of ‘extreme’ abortion restrictions as 6-week limit begins

President Biden has criticized former President Donald Trump, calling Florida’s new six-week abortion limit an “extreme ban.”

Biden issued a statement Wednesday calling pro-life restrictions on abortion eligibility a “nightmare.”

“Today, an extreme abortion ban goes into effect in Florida, banning reproductive health care before many women even know they are pregnant,” the president said in a statement. “There is one person responsible for this nightmare: Donald Trump.”

Biden pointed to a 2022 Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and handed decisions on abortion restrictions back to states. The decision was largely due to President Trump’s unusual appointment of three judges during his tenure.

“Trump boasted about overturning Roe v. Wade and enabling extreme bans like Florida’s, and said his plan was working “magnificently.” “He thinks it’s amazing that more than 4 million women in Florida and more than 1 in 3 women in the United States don’t have access to the care they need,” Biden continued.

Florida’s new law replaces the state’s previous 15-week ban with six weeks of strict restrictions.

The bill includes exceptions of up to 15 weeks for rape, incest and human trafficking, and further legal provisions for fatal fetal abnormalities and threats to the mother’s life.

Biden also complained about President Trump’s comments in a recent interview with Time magazine that he would leave it up to states to decide whether people who travel out of state to seek abortions should be punished.

“now, [Trump] Mr. Biden wants to go further, and has made clear he intends to sign a nationwide abortion ban if elected,” adding, “Just yesterday, he reiterated his support for penalizing women who can’t get the care they need. ‘ he claimed.

The former president made clear in an interview with Time that he does not support a national abortion ban and that the issue should be left to the states.

“Trump is worried that voters will hold him accountable for the brutality and chaos he has caused. And that’s true. Trump stripped American women of their rights and freedoms,” Biden said. I concluded. “This November, voters will teach him a valuable lesson: Don’t mess with America’s women.”

Florida residents are scheduled to vote in November on a constitutional amendment that would guarantee the right to abortion until the fetus is viable.
