In Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, a student was shot and killed by police on Wednesday outside a middle school that had been put on lockdown due to the threat of a gunman.
FOX 6 in Milwaukee Attorney General Josh Kaul reported that a male student was found in possession of a weapon outside Mount Horeb Middle School. Responding officers used deadly force against the student, but the student was unable to enter the school, Kaur added.
The attorney general indicated the suspect was a student in the school district, but did not specify the boy’s age or the school he attended.
The Mount Horeb Area School District took to social media just after 11 a.m. Wednesday to announce that schools across the district were on lockdown. The post urged families to refrain from attending schools within the district.

“The initial search of the middle school yielded no new suspects,” said a post around noon. “Equally important, there are no reports of any individuals being harmed other than the alleged perpetrators.”
A previous post from the district reported that “the threat was neutralized outside the building.”

Details about what happened were not provided by the school district.
On Wednesday night, the district announced it was canceling school for Thursday.
“To allow the healing process to continue, school will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, May 2, 2024,” the school district posted on its Facebook page.
The Mount Horeb Police Department did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for additional information about the incident.
