Monkeys were roaming around a central Florida county, and people caught the unusual incident on camera and called police.
A primate sighting was reported from Groveland last week, and a few days later, neighbors in Clermont said they had seen the wildlife as well.
“When I went to pick up my daughter from school, what I saw was [what] I thought it was a cat. When I got closer, I realized it was a monkey,” Maxel Miranda said. FOX 35 Orlando. His footage showed the monkey walking on all fours behind Southlake High School.

Linda Wasko, primate expert at Primate Paradise in Osteen, Florida They identified the Groveland macaque as a rhesus macaque. She told FOX 35 the monkeys may have migrated from the Wekiva River area, possibly from a group that came from Silver Springs in the 1930s.
Macaques are omnivores, eating lizards, frogs, and birds. They typically avoid contact with humans and usually stick to the military, Wasko said.
Wasko recommends anyone who encounters a macaque report it to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

“I can’t believe it! I have raccoons in the attic, and sometimes squirrels and stuff, but I’ve never seen a monkey. It’s just crazy,” homeowner Simon Wiefer told FOX 35. Ta. I’ll definitely be a little more careful when I go out in the garden from now on. ”
