Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes doubles down on Super Bowl three-peat aspirations: ‘We’re gonna do it again’

Patrick Mahomes has already won three Super Bowls. He also won three Super Bowl MVP trophies and is widely regarded as the best quarterback in the NFL.

Mahomes has helped the Kansas City Chiefs win the last two Super Bowls and is already in the running for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

During a recent conversation with Logan Paul on the Impaulsive podcast, Mahomes reaffirmed his belief that the Chiefs will contend for a title again next season.

“I’m going to do it again next year in New Orleans,” Mahomes declared. “Put it on the table. I’ll do it again. I’ll say it now.”

Mahomes also talked about the infamous “corn dog” play that helped the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime in the 2024 Super Bowl. Kansas City performed this play again in 2023 when they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

“That play was really great,” Mahomes said. “It wasn’t supposed to go to the player who caught the touchdown. We ran ‘Corndog’ against the Eagles. It was a touchdown. We won the game. And we played a fake version of it. I was going to run it and then run it.” After passing the shovel a little, it opened wide again.

In February, Mahomes expressed confidence in the Chiefs’ prospects for winning a third straight championship.

“We’re going for a three-peat. … Don’t get it twisted, we’re doing it. Three times. … For the first time in NFL history, we’re doing it,” Mahomes told fans. Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory rally.

The Chiefs recently signed Mahomes’ most reliable target, Travis Kelce, to a contract extension. This move increases Kansas City’s chances of making it to the championship again.

Kelce will celebrate his 35th birthday a few weeks after the start of the 2024 NFL season. Kelce finished the season with fewer than 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in seven years. However, he remains one of the most productive tight ends in the league.

The deal makes Kelce the highest-paid player at his position in the NFL. It would also tie Kelce to the franchise through the 2027 season. He will be 38 years old when his contract expires.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach expressed confidence in Kelce’s ability to perform at a high level in the near future.

“Every now and then there’s one outlier, and that’s certainly Travis.” [Kelce] is one of those players,” Beach said Monday. Even though it’s not even May yet, I had a chance to participate in Phase 2 today, and the players were running around outside. Travis was first in line and looked about 28 years old.

“Again, it’s highly unlikely that someone will play this far into their 30s, but it happens. It happens in the unicorn industry. Travis is one of them.”

The NFL is expected to release its regular season schedule later this month, which will give the Chiefs more details on their path toward a three-peat.
