WMC-TV reported The pro-Palestinian protest was scheduled to begin at a university club, but was forced to move after a group of students cordoned off the area, saying they were defending the flag.
“I believe the most important thing we need to do right now is to protect everything we stand for,” Ole Miss student Aubrey Grace told the station. “We started seeing camps and violence against other people,” he added. That’s unacceptable on a school campus, especially as an American. ”
The Ledger said more than 60 pro-Palestinian protesters gathered in the Quad, before counter-protesters showed up and things heated up further.
WMC added in a video report that a pro-Palestinian demonstrator threw a water bottle into a crowd of pro-Israel demonstrators, after which bottles and food flew in both directions.
Police soon led the pro-Palestinian protesters to the Faculty of Applied Sciences building, the Ledger said. Ole Miss media director Jacob Batte confirmed to the newspaper that the pro-Palestinian protesters were safely evacuated from campus by bus.
There were reportedly no arrests or injuries, but WHBQ TV reported.
Price Parker, an Ole Miss student who participated in the counter-demonstration, told WHBQ that pro-Palestinian protesters “cannot occupy our campus like they did on the northern campus. This is a southern campus. I believe in God,” he said. And yes, we don’t stand for it. ”
