Netanyahu’s Utopian Plan for ‘Gaza 2035’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday announced a utopian plan to rebuild Gaza, dubbed “Gaza 2035.”

in power point file Although this article was apparently published by the Prime Minister’s Office and is available (in Hebrew) on the Ynet news website, the Israeli government does not believe that Gaza would be open to trade under a Palestinian regime focused on de-radicalization and economic growth. The city envisions thriving as a center of innovation. Not fear or hatred.

The “Gaza 2035” plan seeks to capitalize on Gaza’s historical role as a crossroads for the east-west route linking Cairo and Baghdad on the one hand, and the north-south route linking Europe and Yemen on the other.

The report envisions a three-stage process of reconstruction. First, 12 months of humanitarian assistance. Second, a 5-10 year reconstruction process overseen by Arab countries. Thirdly, there is Palestinian autonomy and participation in the Abraham Accords.

of jerusalem post office elaborate:

Part of the rebuilding effort will include a “ground-up rebuild” and a ground-up design of a new city featuring contemporary design and planning.

The plan also calls for the creation of a large free trade zone covering the Sderot Gaza Strip.El ArishThis would allow Israel, Gaza and Egypt to work together to exploit the space.

Through a combination of new infrastructure investment and regional integration, newly discovered gas fields just north of Gaza could help support a burgeoning industry.

The plan envisions normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia and the eventual unification of the West Bank and Gaza under Palestinian rule, but does not explicitly call for the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state. .

It also takes advantage of a new agreement between Israel and its Arab neighbors, under which Israel will sell solar power in the Mediterranean Sea in exchange for solar energy from vast solar farms being built in the desert. It plans to provide desalination technology.

It remains to be seen whether this plan will gain support. Palestinians have previously rejected such positive plans.

The timing of the plan suggests that Netanyahu’s government wants to assert that it is not seeking a “genocide” of Palestinians in Gaza, but rather peaceful and mutually prosperous coexistence in the post-war period.
