Hamas on Sunday claimed responsibility for a rocket fired at the Kerem Shalom border crossing from the town of Rafah, which is involved in the entry of humanitarian aid trucks into the Gaza Strip.
There were several casualties.era of israel report:
At least seven people were injured in a Hamas rocket attack on the Kerem Shalom area, Hebrew media reported.
Reports said several of those injured in the attack were in critical condition.
Hamas previously attacked this crossing during the 2021 conflict with Israel, again endangering the flow of humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
The timing of the attack could have a huge impact, as hostage deal negotiations are underway in Cairo, Egypt. Israel said it was determined to attack Hamas’ last stronghold in Rafah, regardless of a deal. Hamas says it will not release the hostages unless Israel agrees to end the war and refrain from attacking Rafah’s forces.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have closed the Kerem Shalom crossing, the main entry point for direct humanitarian aid from Israel to Gaza. The IDF also retaliated Sunday with a helicopter attack on the source of Rafah’s rocket fire.
Israelis reacted to the Hamas attack with alarm. Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett posted on X/Twitter:
Hamas has just fired a mortar into the Kerem Shalom crossing, the main entry point for humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Yes, they are bombing their own food and aid lifelines.
This is another example of Hamas’ perverse strategy. It’s about killing your own people in order to hurt them…

According to Abu Ali Express, which monitors Arab media, Hamas’s “moderate” rival, the Palestinian Fatah party, criticized Hamas responded to the Keren Shalom attack by claiming that the terrorist organization had given Israel a pretext for the Rafah attack.
