According to reports, Japan Airlines canceled a flight from Dallas, Texas to Tokyo, Japan last week. A noise complaint was filed the night before the flight was scheduled to take off, as the captain of the flight had been drinking and was making a lot of noise.
The Japanese daily newspaper Mainichi Shimbun reported that Flight J11 from Dallas to Tokyo on April 23 was grounded after the unidentified 49-year-old captain was suspected of having been drinking with the crew the night before.
The pilots had dinner and continued drinking in the lounge and their cabins, the paper said. However, around 2 a.m., an employee asked him to be quiet, but due to the pilot’s demeanor and slurred speech, they called the police instead.

The pilot had several drinks the night before, but did not violate the airline’s policy of not drinking alcohol within 12 hours of takeoff.
The airline told the magazine it must “assess the physical and mental health of the captain” before he flies the plane.
A spokesperson for the airline said, “It is true that the captain had been drinking,” adding, “There was a sufficient time interval between his drinking and his scheduled shift.”
