Minnesota-based Hormel Foods Sales LLC has accused two companies that were manufactured at one of its facilities and distributed in five states in the southeastern United States, saying they could cause potentially deadly infections. A recall has been announced for planter products.
Hormel removed the tainted Honey Roasted Peanuts and Planter Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts at its facilities before distributing them to Publix warehouses in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina and Dollar Tree warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia. produced.
After producing and distributing the product in April, Hormel discovered that the packaged contents may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and others with weakened immune systems.
According to the voluntary recall, healthy people who ingest the microorganism may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Additionally, Listeria infection can cause miscarriage or stillbirth in pregnant women.
The products affected by the recall are limited to 4-ounce packages of Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts and 8.75-ounce cans of Planters Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts.
A can of Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts has a “best before” date on the bottom and a UPC code on the side.
The Honey Roasted Peanuts in question have a UPC code of 2900002097 and a best before date of April 11, 2025.
For Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts, the UPC code in question is 2900001621 and the expiration date is April 5, 2026.
Hormel said these products are the only products subject to the recall.
The company also said there have been no reports of anyone becoming ill from the recalled products and that all affected retailers have been notified.
Anyone in possession of affected products is advised not to consume the nuts and instead throw them away or return them to the store of purchase for a replacement or full refund.

“Our commitment to food safety remains our top priority,” Hormel said. “A full investigation is currently underway to identify potential sources of contamination.”
