The woman who jumped to her death from an Ohio State University graduation stand over the weekend has been identified as the graduate’s parent, and her death is likely a suicide, authorities announced Tuesday.
Larissa Brady, 53, of Georgia, was pronounced dead after falling 46 feet from Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Sunday, the Franklin County Coroner’s Office announced. She was identified by her fingerprints.
Police are continuing to investigate the tragedy, but believe it was “not a coincidence.” However, there is no suspicion of foul play, university spokesperson Ben Johnson confirmed to the Post.
“The Ohio State University is saddened by the death of Larissa Brady, a member of our graduating class. Our hearts go out to her family and friends during this extremely difficult time,” Johnson said. Told.
Brady’s daughter was also among the graduates. The Columbus Dispatch reported. Citing the graduation program.
Around 12:30 p.m., as the last graduates filed into the stadium, fear erupted near the stadium’s bell tower.
Some students witnessed what appeared to be a suicide and were visibly shaken, but the ceremony continued uninterrupted.
The commencement speakers did not mention the incident, and it is unclear whether Brady’s daughter knew of her mother’s death before taking the stage.
At the end of the ceremony, the new graduates reportedly walked past the scene of the tragedy, which was still cordoned off with yellow police tape.
OSU provides counseling to community members in need, Johnson emphasized, adding that anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts should contact the crisis hotline.
