Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that some supporters of former President Donald Trump care more about tax cuts than the sanctity of the Constitution.
When asked about President Trump’s rhetoric, Clinton said, “People can’t stop reporting on the circus, and every statement, every insult, every outrageous action or comment gets reported. It’s often missing context. What does that actually mean? I think it’s essential, especially for members of the press who understand, as you just pointed out, that the world has been here before. People, including American journalists, didn’t take the kind of threats that we saw in the 1930s as seriously as they should. People took them at face value and said, “Oh, we can control this.” He may have said outrageous things, but the system will stand. ” Unfortunately, there are determined demagogues lining up behind him, supported by members of his own party and other promoters, people who care more about future tax cuts than the sanctity of the Constitution. . They’re trying to excuse some of the most outrageous things you just said. I don’t think the media is doing enough to basically say, “Okay, the circus is here.” You can see the circus, but let me explain what that means. Talk to people who truly understand how dictatorships develop. Take a look at the people he admires and what they’ve already accomplished. ”
She continued, “Back in 2016, we didn’t have any interviews with him. We didn’t have a four-year tenure track record. You know, there was a lot of speculation. I think… I understand that people won’t necessarily take what I say as gospel. But now we know. , I have heard his voice.”
Clinton went on to say, “This will probably be our last election because anyone who doesn’t accept the validity of elections is someone who doesn’t believe in elections. And I believe in my call to be in office, whether I get the votes or not.”
