WARSAW, Poland (AP) – Poland’s defense minister said Thursday that the country is strengthening metal barriers along its border with Belarus to deter illegal immigration.
“We are repairing the border wall between Poland and Belarus, and we are strengthening this wall,” Wladysław Kosiniak-Kamisz told private radio Zet. “Spending on these purposes is at an all-time high (in Poland).”
Kosiniak-Kamisz said the increased presence of Polish and allied forces in areas near the border is also helping to tighten NATO and the European Union’s eastern borders. Its presence has increased since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.

Polish border guards issued a statement on Wednesday stating that the 134 migrants who attempted to enter the country illegally from Belarus were of various nationalities, including Afghans, Iraqis, Egyptians, Sudanese and Cubans. https://t.co/96g1KDFfYc

He supported Poland building a series of defense bunkers, trenches and trenches along its borders and the border with the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, a step already taken by the Baltic states.
Poland claims that a large wave of illegal immigration, particularly from Belarus in 2022, was orchestrated by it and Russia to destabilize Ukraine’s ally Poland and the European Union. There is. Metal barriers completed by Poland last year have largely stemmed the flow, but some illegal crossings continue.
The minister’s comments also suggested the barrier was seen as a broader defense measure during the war with Russia and Ukraine, which borders Poland.
