CNN host Fareed Zakaria said Friday on PBS’s “Firing Line” that President Joe Biden should implement former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
“The whole system is broken,” Zakaria said. “And Biden needs to face this and say, ‘We need to reform the whole system.’ I wish he would do something more extreme, like say the old asylum system is over. No one comes in through that process. You must apply from your home country. ”
“That was Trump’s policy,” host Margaret Hoover said.
Zakaria said, “This is President Trump and it’s Mexico, but you have to be in Mexico to apply. I think that’s all correct.”
“Strategically speaking, do you think Mr. Biden has a better political chance if he supports Mr. Trump’s policies?” Hoover said.
Zakaria said, “This is also good policy because the old asylum system is used by millions of people. What complicates the situation at this point is that Biden actually recently Because we took this big vote to basically accept their demands and introduce the legislation that they wanted, and then of course Trump came along and said, “I’d rather solve it by creating chaos at the border.” “Please don’t sign that bill.” I still think what Biden should do is declare a state of emergency, deploy the National Guard due to the national security crisis, halt the pardon process, and start over. ”
