A suspected human smuggler led Texas Department of Public Safety troopers on a wild chase that ended with the driver crashing into a tree. Video shows at least six migrants getting out of the stolen pickup truck after the crash.
Officers arrested a Lockhart, Texas, man and charged him with multiple felonies after a pursuit that culminated in an off-road accident, according to Texas DPS spokesman Lt. Chris Olivares. The driver and all six migrants appear to have escaped without serious injuries.

Video taken by a DPS helicopter crew shows the driver driving erratically along the highway and winding through multiple intersections. At one intersection, a driver narrowly missed an innocent person’s truck. In the next moment, a truck believed to be the smugglers’ truck flies into the air and is nearly hit by cross-country traffic.
The driver ended up veering off the road and into some bushes. As the truck bounces over rough terrain, the tailgate begins to fall off the truck.
The off-road trip continued for a short time until the allegedly stolen truck crashed into a tree. Moments later, the driver jumped out and helped the six migrants out of the pickup truck. The driver and the migrants fled into the bush, but were eventually rounded up by police with the help of a helicopter crew overhead.
DPS officials identified the suspected smuggler as Carlos Lombardich Villabos of Lockhart, Texas. He currently faces multiple charges including human smuggling, criminal mischief, trespassing, deadly conduct and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
