Former Mumford & Sons Member Winston Marshall Rebukes Nancy Pelosi at Oxford Union Debate

Winston Marshall, a former member of the folk-rock band Mumford & Sons, scolded former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) to her face during a recent Oxford Union debate.

In a debate on April 25, Mr Marshall expressed his opposition to the Oxford Union’s view that “this House believes populism is a threat to democracy”. Pelosi said that certain Americans, whom she described as “poor souls” looking for answers, were “guns, homosexuals, [and] God. ” Marshall said elites are deliberately changing the definition of populism to suit their own purposes.

“‘Populism’ has become a word synonymous with ‘racist.’ “I’ve heard the words,” Marshall said.

“The elites use it to show their disdain for the common man,” Marshall added.

Marshall pointed to a 2016 speech in which former President Barack Obama “resented at the idea that Trump would be called a populist.”

“If anything, Obama claimed he was a populist. Rather, Obama claimed Bernie was a populist,” he said. “Something strange happens. If you look at Obama’s subsequent speeches, you’ll see that lately he has increasingly used the word ‘populist’ interchangeably with ‘strongman’ and ‘authoritarian.’ . The meaning of the word changes. It becomes a negative, derogatory, derogatory word. ”

Marshall referred to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot as a “dark day for America,” but Pelosi and her Democratic colleagues were less furious when Antifa committed political violence against government property. He pointed out that he had not done so.

“Senator Pelosi would agree that the entire month of June 2020, when the federal courthouse in Portland, Oregon, was under siege and insurrection by radical progressives, was still a dark day for America.” said.

Pelosi immediately raised her hand and said: . . . This is different from what happened on January 6th, which was an insurrection instigated by the president of the United States. ”

“But what I’m saying is that any political movement is susceptible to violence, and indeed riots,” Marshall said. “Populism is not a threat to democracy. Populism is democracy. And why do we need universal suffrage if it doesn’t rein in elites?”

Marshall even opposed populism, believing that “the left was supposed to be anti-establishment,” and pointing out Pelosi’s hypocrisy.

“Today, especially in America, the globalist left is in control,” he said. “If Ms. Pelosi stands on this side of the debate, she will be forced from her job.”

“Don’t get me wrong, we need an elite. If President Biden has shown us anything, we need someone to run the country,” he said. “When the president develops severe dementia, it’s not just America that collapses; the whole world goes up in flames.”

Marshall acknowledged that Trump should have accepted the 2020 election results, but criticized Pelosi and Democrats for not accepting the 2016 election results.

“Hillary should have done that in 2016, so should Brussels and Westminster in 2016, and Congresswoman Pelosi should have done that without saying, quote, that the 2016 election was ‘hijacked.’ You should.”

Pelosi interjected, “That’s right.” “That doesn’t mean we won’t accept the consequences.”

according to fox news, The motion was “debated by Marshall and Pelosi and ultimately received a 177-68 vote from those who attended the Oxford Union event.”
