Actor Steve Buscemi was seen with a black eye and bruises on his chin in his first public appearance since a random attack in Kips Bay last week.
The 66-year-old “Boardwalk Empire” actor cradled a bruised and swollen jaw while filming a commercial in SoHo on Saturday.
Photos taken over the weekend showed Buscemi chatting with crew members along Mott and Prince streets around 5:25 p.m.
It was his first public appearance since Wednesday’s broad daylight attack, when a deranged, violent man walked up to the Brooklyn-born actor and launched an unprovoked attack on him. He was still at large, the NYPD told the Post.
“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in midtown Manhattan, becoming the latest victim of random acts of violence in the city,” a spokesperson for the actor said in a statement Sunday. “He’s okay and we appreciate everyone’s well wishes, but it’s incredibly sad for anyone to have something like this happen while walking down the street in New York.” That’s it.”
Buscemi, a beloved celebrity in the Big Apple, is originally from Brooklyn and was a New York City firefighter before starting his film career.
Police released surveillance photos of the attacker last week.
Buscemi’s career has spanned decades, appearing in hit films such as Fargo, Reservoir Dogs, and The Big Lebowski.
He received critical acclaim for his role as perverse Atlantic City Paul Enoch “Nucky” Thompson on HBO’s hit series “Boardwalk Empire.”
He is the second cast member of the series to be attacked in the city.
On March 31st, actor Michael Sturberg was hit with a rock by a vagrant while jogging on the Upper East Side.
