Wisconsin teacher charged with 22 counts of disorderly conduct after allegedly ‘grooming’ student with hundreds of messages

According to a criminal complaint, the Kenosha County Department of Family Services received an anonymous tip on Feb. 2 about Christian Enright allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old student at Kenosha Technical College.

In court filings, detectives characterized the interaction as “manipulation, also known as grooming.” The exchange was described as “special consideration, the development of secrecy, the desensitization and normalization of sexual topics, and the pushing of personal boundaries.”

The allegedly inappropriate messages began in June 2023, when the student was 13 years old, and escalated to the point where Enright was sending as many as 600 messages in one week.

student I told the school staff She and Enright communicated on a daily basis using Snapchat and TikTok, but she denied doing anything inappropriate. Her police completed a forensic analysis of her cell phone and found that he had sent her shirtless photos and called her “cute.”

WITI-TV obtained screenshots of some of the interactions and published them in a news video report.

When asked about the messages, Enright told police he only sent the images and messages to the girl because he was “trying to boost her confidence and make her feel good about herself,” police said.

Police said one of the messages read, “ASF cute dimples,” and another read, “I’m trying hard to be appropriate lol.”

Parents complained to the school over the accusations.

“It’s horrifying,” said Brittany Lawton, a parent of a child at the school. “We always knew something was wrong, something wasn’t right, but no one knew it would affect the kids.”

Lawton said she has known Enright since she was a child.

“It’s really horrifying to think that if this was my child, I might have been swept up in the same way,” she added. “There’s always risk, but I never thought it would be this close to home.”

The school district announced that Enright had been fired on May 7.

Enright was charged with 22 misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct.

A judge disagreed with that argument and issued the suspect $5,000 bail. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim, the victim’s family, the school, or any other children other than his own. It also ordered that unsupervised access to social media be prohibited.

Kenosha Police Chief Patrick Patton released a statement regarding the investigation.

“The decision to prosecute by the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office is the culmination of countless hours of work by our detectives to discover the truth of Mr. Enright’s actions. “We have provided all of the following information to strengthen our billing decisions,” the statement read in part.

Patton went on to say that the department is working with lawmakers to develop “aggressive legislation and new state laws that appropriately address this type of behavior with strict language and penalties.”
