UC Irvine professor goes on unhinged rant after arrest at encampment

Multiple law enforcement agencies in Southern California cleared an anti-Israel encampment set up at the University of California, Irvine on Wednesday. The occupiers not only set up zones on campus, but also occupied nearby buildings, prompting a massive police response.

Police made a number of arrests during the clearing operation, including a tenured professor in the Department of International Studies.

As the woman was being taken away by police, she yelled abusive language at reporters.

“I’m a democratic peaceful protester! Shame on them!” the professor said.

“Why are you here today?” the reporter asked.

“We cannot have a genocidal foreign policy in a democracy,” the woman responded, “These young people will pay the price for such a terrible decision. Police officers here today. That’s scholarships for thousands of students! Thousands of students could have gone to school, had books, and had housing!”

“We were prepared to allow peaceful encampments to exist on campus without resorting to police intervention.”

When asked if her arrest would jeopardize her job, she replied: “If there is no future for the students, what job do I have!”

Prime Minister Howard Gilman released In a statement after a chaotic day, they explained that they had hoped to avoid police coming to campus, but that taking over the building had gone too far.

“I will allow peaceful encampments on campus without resorting to police intervention, even if the encampment violates our policies and the presence of the encampment is highly distressing to other members of the community.” “We were prepared to allow the presence of the University. Any violation of our rules will be dealt with through the University’s normal administrative policies, rather than through police action,” Gilman explained.

“And weeks after the encampers assured our community that they were committed to maintaining a peaceful and undisturbed encampment, we saw their direct attack on other students and their rights. “It was scary to see things change dramatically in the university’s mission,” he added.
