Trump Lawyer Gets Michael Cohen to Backtrack on Alleged Key Call with Trump

As Trump’s defense team continued to cross-examine Michael Cohen, the prosecution’s “star witness,” even establishment media acknowledged Cohen’s lack of credibility.

by daily beastOctober 26, 2016, President Trump’s lawyer Todd Blanche asked Cohen about details of a conversation he had with President Trump in which he allegedly gave the go-ahead to a hush-money deal with adult actress Stormy Daniels. There was a dramatic moment that made him admit that he was uncertain about the content.

Prosecutors previously said Cohen called Trump’s bodyguard, Keith Schiller, and gave the phone to Trump to discuss the deal.

But during a heated exchange, Blanche reportedly told Cohen: was. lie! …. You didn’t talk to President Trump that night…and you admit it! ”

Mr. Cohen replied: “No, you can’t.” Because I’m not sure if that’s accurate. ”

Blanche asked Cohen about the real reason he allegedly called Trump’s bodyguard. It was to discuss a call he received from a prank caller who was under attack.

Blanche read out text messages between Cohen and the 14-year-old boy who made the prank call, in which Cohen told the caller to contact a parent or guardian “before the intelligence community makes contact.” I told them to get it.

Blanche said Cohen then contacted Schiller and sent a text message at 7:48 p.m. asking, “Who do I talk to about harassing phone calls to my home or office?” . According to the report:

Cohen missed Schiller’s call after 13 minutes, but quickly called back at 8:02 p.m. Records show the call lasted one minute and 36 seconds. Shortly after, Cohen sent him the prankster’s phone number.

“Okay,” Mr. Schiller answered after a few seconds.

Cohen followed up the next morning.

“Did your family get it?” he texted Schiller at 7:58 a.m.

These call records tell a broader story than those submitted by prosecutors earlier this week, but they give the Trump campaign an opportunity to accuse Cohen of fabricating the true purpose of the calls.

“That was a lie, because you were actually talking to Mr. Schiller,” Blanche told him.

“Some of them were 14-year-olds,” Cohen countered, claiming for the first time that the brief call actually had two purposes.

Blanche then asked if a 1-minute, 32-second phone call was enough to talk to Trump about the prank caller, Schiller, and the hush-money deal. Mr. Cohen insisted there was plenty of time.

“I think I told him that everything was getting sorted out,” Cohen reportedly said. Blanche retorted: “We’re not looking for your beliefs. … This jury doesn’t want to know what you think happened.”

The trial is expected to conclude as early as next week, with Cohen finishing his testimony on Monday.

There will be no court session Friday because President Trump requested special leave to attend his son Barron’s high school graduation.

Mr. Trump’s team is scheduled to make a full argument on Monday, and both sides could make closing arguments as early as Tuesday.

After leaving court on Thursday, President Trump told reporters: “It’s been an interesting day. And it shows you what a fraud this whole thing is.”
