Arizona poll finds trouble for Joe Biden vs. Donald Trump

A new poll shows President Biden’s odds against former President Donald Trump are slightly slim in Arizona, a state he carried in 2020.

The poll comes weeks after Arizona gained national attention in connection with a state Supreme Court decision that upheld an 1864 law and made abortion a felony.

In an Arizona poll, about 51% of voters said abortion would be a major factor in deciding who to vote for in November’s presidential election. Sixty-five percent of respondents said they support a constitutional right to abortion in their state.

The Biden campaign quickly pounced on the abortion ruling, launching an ad blitz in Arizona last month that featured content telling voters that President Trump posed a risk to millions of women’s access to abortion. President Trump said last month that abortion laws should be left up to each state, and later said the Arizona ruling went too far.

According to the poll, 44% of registered voters in Arizona said they would leave abortions up to each state if Trump were elected to the White House, while the remaining 33% said they would make abortion illegal nationwide. Another 23% said President Trump would do nothing or were unsure.

Despite polls showing Biden trailing Trump, in a hypothetical showdown for the state’s Senate seat, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) has a comfortable lead over Republican Kali Lake. keeping the lead. Polls show Gallego’s approval rating at 49%, while Lake’s approval rating is at 36%.

The poll, conducted May 10-16 among 1,510 Arizona adults, had a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points for the overall sample and a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points among registered voters.

According to Hill/Decision Desk’s Arizona polling average, Trump leads Biden by 6.1 points in the head-to-head race in the state. Mr. Trump’s approval rating is about 49%, and Mr. Biden’s approval rating is about 43%.
