Jose Trevino, Jon Berti power Yankees to sweep over White Sox

Where things are going particularly well for most teams is that they are getting contributions from the bottom of the table.

That’s increasingly becoming the norm for the Yankees.

The strong batting lineup is starting to show its strength frequently from 1-9, and on Sunday, it was once again the bottom half that led the Yankees to a seventh straight win.

No. 8 and No. 9 batters Jose Trevino and John Barty combined for five runs, and the Yankees defeated the White Sox 7-2 in the Bronx.

Trevino continued to swing his hot bat and hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the second inning, before Berti hit his first home run of the year, diving into the short porch and hitting a three-run homer, leading the Yankees (33-) to victory. 15) Great condition in the 4th time.

With their fourth sweep of the season and 13 wins out of 15, the Yankees have already matched their 2023 total.

It was the first time in over a week that a Yankees starting pitcher allowed at least one run, but Carlos Rodon still had a good showing, allowing just two runs in six innings. The left-handed pitcher lowered his ERA to 3.27 in 10 starts and had a comeback season against his former team.

The White Sox (14-33) briefly took a lead in the second inning, but like the Yankees’ trailing streak, it didn’t last long. After trailing for the final two innings of those seven games, the Yankees regained the lead in the next half, thanks to their last place standing.

Anthony Rizzo (2-for-4) singled, Gleyber Torres (2-for-4) doubled, and Trevino singled to right to tie the game.

Trevino later lost his home run to left fielder Corey Jukes, but is currently batting .343 (24 hits in 70 at bats) with 16 RBIs over his past 23 games.

In the fourth inning, Rizzo and Torres got things going again, and this time Berti (2-for-3) hit a three-run home run to give the Yankees a 5-2 lead.

Aaron Judge then added his 13th home run of the season and seventh in the past 13 games on a short porch special for a 7-2 lead.

Entering Sunday, the Yankees’ 7-9 batters had a .709 OPS this season, good for fourth-best in the majors. The lineup will be even more complete by next week, with DJ LeMahieu potentially making his season debut if his rehabilitation goes well.
