Ann 11 year old boy in florida He is currently in custody accused of the truly heinous crime of shooting and killing the woman who has cared for him for almost his entire life.
Just before 8 a.m. Friday, police were called to the scene of a shooting at a home in Ocoee, Florida, about 10 miles northwest of Orlando. Neighbors heard screams and when police arrived at the Idaho Court home, they found 55-year-old Sandra Pape King shot and running for her life.
“He had a little tantrum every now and then, which I think was normal for a kid his age.”
According to a report from WESH, a neighbor found her in her front yard and television footage showed her purse lying on the ground. However, in a statement from the Ocoee Police Department, she said:He had been shot inside the house.”
In any case, first responders rushed Ms. King to Advent Health Apopka, where she later died from her injuries. It is unclear how many times she was shot.
Officers quickly identified the suspect. He was an 11-year-old boy who lived with King. The boy appeared in court on Saturday.
The boy’s family also attended the hearing, and at least one of them appeared sympathetic to the boy’s plight. womanThe woman, who described herself as King’s daughter and the boy’s cousin, asked the court to allow her and other relatives to visit the boy at the juvenile detention center where he is currently being held.
“He doesn’t understand what’s going on. I don’t think he even knows he killed her,” she told the court. She also explained that King had been the boy’s “guardian since he was six weeks old.”
The court granted her request and the boy will be detained until his next hearing, the date of which is not known.
Meanwhile, those who knew Ms. King in the neighborhood remain shocked and reeling from her untimely death. One local resident admitted the boy may have “caught up to his aunt” as he was “a bit thin”, but still could not believe the boy was believed to have killed his aunt. .
Another neighbor, Jackson Genao, was similarly perplexed. “He seemed like a normal kid. You know, he had a little tantrum here and there. It’s normal for a kid his age, I guess. I have two daughters the same age as him, so I didn’t think, ‘It’s nothing,'” he said.
Neighbor Gerald Ingram called the whole situation “heartbreaking.”
The boy’s lawyer declined to comment. Ocoee police maintain that the investigation into the incident remains “active and ongoing.”
