California woman arrested after police find decomposing body of elderly woman wrapped in plastic bags in locked closet

Hanford police said they went to a home on Encore Drive near 11th Street on Friday after a neighbor called them to do a welfare check.

When they entered, they found the body of 67-year-old Peggy Ann Yinglin in a locked closet.

“There’s a lot of violence in the world, but this is really, really close.”

“The victim was an elderly female and her body had begun to decompose. She was wrapped in a plastic bag so we didn’t believe she died of natural causes,” said Lt. Justin Varin with Hanford Police.

Police interviewed 37-year-old Kelly Yinglin, who also lived in the home.

The younger Yingling was already being held in Kings County Jail following a police pursuit on May 2 on a warrant unrelated to the elderly woman’s death.

Police said she gave incriminating statements and an autopsy report found evidence of strangulation, leading to her being arrested on suspicion of murder.she Paid Those charges included murder and elder abuse resulting in death, with the district attorney later adding premeditated murder.

An unidentified neighbor told KFSN-TV that they noticed the elderly woman was missing.

“I saw that all the windows of some of the boxes were closed and then there were some letters taped to the door, so they were from friends who hadn’t seen her and some of them were worried about where she was,” he said.

“It’s too close to home.”

Neighbors said they were shocked by the arrest because the area is usually quiet.

“It’s very shocking. It hits so close to home. There’s a lot of violence in the world but this hits so close to home,” Gabriel Birueta said.

Police had visited the residence prior to the death investigation due to a family dispute.

Virueta remembers the old Yinglin.

“She was very quiet, very introverted, and she would come out and ask for help from us, from me, from the neighbours, she would drive to the store, she would drive to the doctor’s office,” he added.

Hanford is a city of about 57,000 people located in the San Joaquin Valley between Bakersfield and Fresno.
