‘Hypocrisy’ to Attack International Criminal Court for Netanyahu Warrant

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “All In” that the International Criminal Court is seeking arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leaders on war crimes charges. He called it “hypocrisy” to attack the chief prosecutor.

Moderator Chris Hayes said, “There was a bipartisan call in the Senate to work on a bill that would effectively sanction the International Criminal Court for the arrest warrant against Prime Minister Netanyahu.” He said he would be open to working with a group of partisan senators. Are you interested in a bipartisan bill to sanction the International Criminal Court for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s arrest warrant?

Ocasio-Cortez said: “Absolutely not. Absolutely not. What is particularly disturbing to me about this attack on the ICC is why its conclusions are wrong or corrupt, or why its process is unjust. There is no specific body of evidence presented by members of any political party.”

She added: “I think attacking a court simply because you don’t like the verdict and without any evidence to back up your claims is the beginning of hypocrisy. It could also be a gift to America’s adversaries, because there’s nothing to stop Putin, individuals around the world and other authoritarians from ignoring international institutions that try to hold people accountable for war crimes.”
