Terry ReinkeThe European Green Party representative said Europe is an ageing continent and needs to create legal pathways and have robust refugee protection systems.
She said there was a need for policies that met humanitarian standards and were workable.
There was a need to end deaths at sea, she said, and called for an EU search and rescue operation.

The discussion turned to immigration and the border.
When asked about her position and initial reaction to Israel and Gaza, she replied: Ursula von der Leyen He said it was imperative to recognize the horror of October 7th.
Member States have different objectives, but we all support a two-state solution, so let’s work on it, she said.

Asked about Meloni’s approach to LGBT issues, von der Leyen said she takes a different approach.
Ursula von der LeyenEmmanuel Merkel, president of the European Commission and leading candidate for the center-right European People’s Party, said campaigning for a second term was one of the best things that had ever happened to her.
Young people are attractive because they are Europe’s strongest supporters, she said.
“I am ready to build a majority for a strong Europe,” she said.

She said that parties such as the National Union and the AfD may have different names and ideas, but they are friends of Putin and want to destroy Europe, and we will not allow this.
Nicholas SchmidtStephan McClellan of the Party of European Socialists renewed his call for Chancellor Ursula von der Leyen to clearly define the red lines in any potential partnership.
“It is inconceivable that Mr Meloni’s ideas about Europe are not the same as yours,” he told the European Commission president.
He added that Article 7 needed to be changed to be tougher on countries that do not respect the rule of law.
Terry Reinkefor the European Green Party, said we need to improve the way things are decided within the EU.
We need a strong European Parliament and its own resources. The tasks are growing but there is no money to implement them, she argued.
Enlargement will not work without institutional reforms to make the EU fit for the coming decades and centuries, he said.
In response to the controversy surrounding VVD in the Netherlands, Sandro GogiThe head of Renew Europe Now said that Renew Europe is focused on the June 9 elections and that the group’s leaders have made it clear that there will be discussions about the VVD’s membership. He said a decision would not take years, as the European People’s Party did with Viktor Orbán.
walter bayerSpeaking on behalf of the European Left Party, he said that far-right issues should not be included in the debate. The problem, he argued, was not immigration but the far right. He must refute the claims of the far right, he said.
