After spending more than 260 days in an Indiana animal shelter, a once-sad puppy’s situation has taken a happy turn.
Major, a 4-year-old terrier-pitbull mix, was brought to the Hamilton County Humane Society as a stray dog.
Upon arrival, the shelter team called the number written on the microchip.

According to a Facebook post from the Hamilton County Humane Society, Major’s family was supposed to arrive to pick him up but never showed up.

Since then, Major has been spending time in his doghouse, becoming stressed and not quiet at night, instead sitting in his room crying “endlessly,” the post continued.
The post with a photo of Major looking sad has been viewed more than 260,000 times. Staff hoped Major would find a loving family, preferably without a cat.
Major’s tears have stopped and the puppy has finally found a loving family.

The humanitarian organisation shared the news in a Facebook update post after the Major captured the hearts of social media users.

A heartwarming video shared on May 18 shows the major happily running up to employees and saying goodbye before heading home to his adopted family.
“When he walked out the door with his new family, we couldn’t help but feel like there was a huge hole in our hearts, but we were immediately filled with happiness knowing he had found his perfect match. ” reads the Facebook post.
This good news continues to reach the hundreds of thousands of users who have followed Major’s story from the beginning.

In another post, the humane society reminded the public that there are plenty of animals in need of homes.
“Each dog here has its own story,” the post read. “They may not all have contracted the virus, but they all deserve the same love, care, and a safe place to call home. Sheltering in place is stressful for them. It’s a crowded environment, and they’re waiting their turn every day.”

“Major, we miss your antics and wagging tail, but we know your new family will cherish you just as much as we do,” Humane Society staff wrote on Facebook after Major’s grand exit. “Farewell, my sweetie, may your days be filled with endless love and happiness.” (Hamilton County Humane Society, Indiana)
