Florida football player Michai Boireau arrested after police chase

Florida Gators defensive lineman Mihai Ishmael Boileau was arrested in Georgia over the weekend. It is believed the police pursuit reached speeds of up to 150 mph and ended with the vehicle colliding with another vehicle.

According to a police report, Boileau, an 18-year-old freshman, was spotted by a police officer traveling 86 mph on Interstate 75 in Monroe County around 10 p.m. Saturday. Quoted by Monroe County Reporter.

Instead of stopping the vehicle, the man turned off the lights and stepped on the gas pedal, police said.

The report said the defensive lineman “drove recklessly, changed lanes abruptly, drove through traffic at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, and passed vehicles on the shoulder.”

The suspect led police on a pursuit for several miles, pulling over at a rest stop and nearly coming to a stop before driving back onto the highway at gunpoint, police said.

Police eventually found the crashed Malibu and an injured 58-year-old man.

Police then saw Boileau walking on the shoulder of the road and his BMW parked on the side of the road.

Boileau reportedly told police he was on his way to school in Florida and failed to stop because his driver’s license was suspended.

A small amount of marijuana was found in his vehicle.
