Two people were injured in a shootout at a high school graduation ceremony in Oakland, California, on Thursday night.
Oakland Police Lt. Robert Trevino said officers were called to Skyline High School around 7:45 p.m. local time after receiving a report of a shooting on campus during a graduation ceremony.
When officers arrived at the school, they found two victims, a man and a woman, suffering from gunshot wounds. Trevino did not disclose their ages but said the victims were both adults.
Both were taken by ambulance to hospital and were reportedly in stable condition as of late Thursday night.

The California Highway Patrol was also deployed to the school and assisted Oakland police in searching the building and maintaining a perimeter.
At a press conference held hours after the shooting, Trevino said the school was deemed “safe” later that day.
“Our officers are very professional and pretty well trained for critical incidents, so they were able to evacuate everybody safely. There were multiple people trying to evacuate at one time, but no one was injured,” Trevino said when asked about the police response.

The investigation into the shooting is still in its early stages, but Trevino said authorities are looking into reports that there was “some sort of struggle” that led to the shooting.
He said it was unclear exactly how many shots were fired during the incident, but that there were multiple shots.
Police believe there may have been multiple suspects involved in the shooting and are “trying to determine the exact number,” Trevino said. As of late Thursday night, there were no descriptions of the suspects or the vehicle believed to be the gunman.
