After a brief lull from previous migrant surges, the Tucson sector has regained its No. 1 position for migrant encounters along the southwest border with Mexico. Apprehensions of migrants crossing the border illegally between ports of entry have surged to about 7,400 this week. Apprehensions in the San Diego sector have fallen to just over 6,000.
Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Officer John Modlin said in his weekly report that officers encountered about 7,400 migrants crossing the border illegally between ports of entry last week.

CBS News Reports Immigrant arrests fell 54% in the first 21 days of May to an average of 3,770 people per day.
