Event rider Georgie Campbell dies in fall at Devon horse trials competition | Equestrianism

A professional equestrian has died during an equestrian event in Devon.

Governing body British Eventing said in a statement: “We deeply regret that George Campbell (GBR) suffered a fatal accident on Sunday 26th May 2024 whilst competing at the Bicton International Eventing Event in Devon, England.”

“Medical professionals rushed to the scene immediately after the horse fell at the 5b fence but unfortunately it was not possible to save it. The horse, Global Quest, was examined by an on-site veterinarian and walked back to his stables, uninjured.”

“To respect the family’s privacy at this extremely difficult and sad time, no further details will be released.”

A spokesman for South West Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said they were called to the incident near Budleigh Salterton at 3.05pm on Sunday. An emergency rescue helicopter, a two-seater land ambulance, operations officers and a risk area response team were dispatched to the scene.

The Bicton International Equestrian Event runs over four days from Thursday to Sunday. Devon and Cornwall Police have been contacted for comment.
