California surfer opens up about encountering aggressive shark

A California surfer recently survived a terrifying encounter with a shark that was displaying “aggressive behavior,” according to authorities.

Following a shark encounter on Sunday near T Street Beach in San Clemente, California, the city closed the beach “due to observed aggressive shark behavior.”

“Beaches will remain open, but access to the waters will be closed until 8 p.m. Monday unless there are any new shark sightings,” the city said in a notice.

He said he was in the water when a young shark, about 4 to 6 feet long, knocked him off his board.

Garcia told the outlet that after the encounter, he alerted lifeguards and showed them his surfboard. Officials called in a shark expert to examine the bite marks and then ordered everyone out of the water.

“When it hit me from below I knew right away it was a shark. There are people out there who have been attacked by sharks and been injured. I was really lucky that only my board was injured,” Garcia told FOX 11.
