Richard Dreyfuss Accused of Making Sexist, Homophobic Comments at ‘Jaws’ Screening
Hollywood star Richard Dreyfuss has been accused of making sexist and homophobic remarks while attending a screening of the film “Apollo 11.” Jaws on Saturday at a theater in Massachusetts.
Dreyfuss attended an event called “An Evening with Richard Dreyfuss + Screening of Jaws” at the Cabot Theatre in Beverly, Massachusetts, where he presented several remarks Before the screening, The Hollywood Reporter.
But some attendees were outraged when the film’s leading lady spoke at length about inclusion rules at the Oscars, criticized transgender people and reportedly attacked left-wing actress and singer Barbara Streisand.
Some fans took to social media to vent their displeasure after the film, with one saying: “An evening of Richard Dreyfuss, misogyny and homophobia. Disappointing beyond words.”

The theatre quickly apologised for the actor’s verbal abuse, saying in a statement: “We are aware of and share the serious concerns,” adding: “The views expressed by Mr Dreyfuss do not reflect the values of inclusivity and respect that we uphold as an organisation, and we deeply regret the distress caused to many audience members.”
The theater also asserted that it is “actively engaged in dialogue about audience experiences and is committed to learning from this event to better execute on our mission to entertain, educate and inspire our community.”
The actor’s comments aren’t all that surprising, as he’s been speaking out against left-wing censorship for years.
For example, last May he said: Firing Line He said the academy’s “inclusion rules” make him “nauseous.”
“Nobody should tell me, as an artist, that I have to succumb to the latest idea of what morality is. What are we risking? Are we really risking hurting people’s feelings? You can’t legislate that. You have to accept life as life and, I’m sorry, but I don’t think there is a minority or majority in this country that has to deal with that. … It’s art. It’s also a form of commerce and it makes money, but it’s art. Nobody should tell me, as an artist, that I have to succumb to the latest idea of what morality is.”
In 2019, Dreyfus slammed those who take no pride in America’s founding and praised the Constitution while expressing concern that Jews are turning their backs on Judaism.
