A 5-year-old girl was among nine people killed in a bloody shooting in Chicago over Memorial Day weekend.
The young victim, Rain Ware, was shot about 3 a.m. Sunday while sitting in a parked car with her father on the Near West Side in the 200 block of North Campbell Avenue. Fox 32 Chicago I will report.
A Jeep Cherokee reportedly pulled up and shots were fired. Lane was killed and a 24-year-old man was injured. It is unclear who the shots were aimed at.

The girl’s mother told the Chicago Sun-Times that the family was on their way home from a family party and that the girl was “in the wrong place at the wrong time.” The paper said the girl was set to start kindergarten next year and loved dance and gymnastics.
“She brought life into our lives, into the lives of outsiders, into everyone that met her. She was just a sweet kid,” Ware’s mother, Raven Adams, told Fox 32.
Her family is calling on the perpetrators to turn themselves in.
Ware’s grandmother made an emotional appeal to Chicago officials to curb the city’s rising crime rate.
At least 41 people have been shot in Chicago since Friday night, nine of them fatally, according to ABC News.

“We need a mayor. We need city council members. We need you all to really stand up and stop the violence,” Ware’s grandmother said.
“Mothers and grandmothers and everyone needs to take responsibility for where their kids are, what they’re doing, what guns they have. I want people to pay attention. Someone has to do something.”
“This has to stop today. This can’t keep happening. We can’t keep hurting each other.”
Ware’s mother has set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses for her daughter.

Among the other victims killed in shootings in Chicago over Memorial Day weekend was a 28-year-old man who was shot in the back early Sunday while walking on a sidewalk on the city’s west side in the 300 block of South Christiana Avenue in North Lawndale.
ABC 7 reports that just before 11:30 p.m. on Friday, a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old man were found dead with shot wounds to the head in an alley in the 4700 block of North Troy Street.
The media outlet reported that at least 45 people were shot, one of them fatally, over the weekend leading up to Memorial Day weekend.
