New details have emerged revealing that an illegal immigrant charged with murdering a woman in Berkeley County, West Virginia, spent more than two decades in an El Salvadoran prison before being released into the United States under President Joe Biden’s watch.
David Antonio Calderon, a 46-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador, was arrested in Frederick County, Virginia, this month on an outstanding arrest warrant in West Virginia for allegedly murdering the woman.
New details about Calderon’s past have emerged. report By Adam Shaw, Fox News Digital and West Virginia Metro News reveal Calderon served time in a Salvadoran prison from January 1999 to August 2021 for drunk driving, sexual assault, murder, robbery and drug offenses.
Following his release from an El Salvadoran prison in 2021, Calderon sought asylum in Canada via the U.S. northern border in March 2023 but was denied. Canadian authorities transferred him to the custody of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Calderon was released with a Notice to Appear (NTA) before a federal immigration judge.
Police discovered the body of a 33-year-old woman after firefighters put out a burning couch in Berkeley County on May 6. The woman had been reported missing from a Jefferson County house arrest program.
Police allege Calderon randomly attacked two homeless people with a baseball bat behind a Walmart in Jefferson County in April, severely injuring them, which resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for him on suspicion of aggravated assault.
Just days after the woman’s body was discovered, Calderon was arrested on warrants in connection with the two attacks, and after being arrested on assault charges, he was charged with murdering the woman.
Calderon is being held at the Northwest Regional Adult Detention Center in Frederick County and is fighting extradition to Berkeley County to face the murder charge.
