Perhaps at the request of the Republican governor The most conservative state in the country Reasons for resigning from the medical association Openly opposed Gender-related health care interventions for minors.
Last year, Wyoming’s Republican governor, Mark Gordon, appointed Casper radiologist Dr. Eric Cubin to the state’s Medical associationwhich mainly The position is responsible for issuing and renewing licenses for physicians and physician assistants in Wyoming. “At the end of the day, I stood up for what I believe in, for what is right, and for the children of our state.”
Similarly, earlier this year, the Wyoming Legislature considered a bill that would ban so-called gender-affirming care for minors. The child reassignment bill, dubbed “Chloe’s Law” after famous transgender person Chloe Cole, would ban all forms of transgender-related care. Medical intervention This includes a variety of nefarious practices against children, including cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers, and of course surgical genital mutilation.
While Dr. Cubin isn’t necessarily opposed to such medical interventions for adults, he sent an email to all state legislators in February urging them to support Chloe’s Law.
“The evidence and medical data on gender-affirming care is mixed,” Cubin wrote, according to the Daily. “Unfortunately, much of the data on both sides is politically biased, making it difficult to discern exactly what is true and what is not.”
Both houses of the Wyoming Legislature appear to agree with Cubin. Sailed It was passed by the state House and Senate, and Governor Gordon reluctantly signed the bill in March. every day.
“I signed [Chloe’s Law] “While I support the protections for children that are contained in this bill, I believe the government is interfering too much in the personal matters of families,” he said at the time.
Governor Gordon also took issue with Cubin’s email regarding Cloe’s Law, arguing that it showed inappropriate bias as a member of the medical association. “Medical professionals should be confident that the licenses that they use to earn their livelihood will be treated professionally and reviewed solely on clinical merit,” Governor Gordon said. “Even the appearance of bias is disturbing and undermines confidence in the impartiality of the medical association.”
Gordon further noted that because Dr. Cubin is a member of the Wyoming Medical Association, his email could be viewed as representing the views of the Wyoming Medical Association as a whole, even though the association’s leadership was vehemently opposed to Chloe’s Law. [about transgender-related care for minors] “Healthcare should be between the patient and the provider,” said WMS President Chris Chamber.
In an email, Cubin criticized WMS, claiming that the company’s board has been hijacked by “several very vocal, extremely liberal members” whose “woke” views are at odds with those of the general membership. [WMS board members] “He decided to put politics above his professed mission of advocating for physicians’ rights,” he said.
On April 22, Governor Gordon sent Cubin a letter informing him that while he respected his right to free speech, he intended to “remove” him from the medical board for his political views. Rather than wait for his removal, Cubin resigned on April 29.
Cubin has since maintained he is satisfied with his actions and the consequences: “At the end of the day, I stood up for my beliefs, I stood up for justice and I protected the children of Wyoming,” he said.
Gordon told the Daily he could not comment further on the matter.
